Dystonia

María Piquer

Sportswoman

Now, 7 years after that day, and 2 and a half years after starting treatment, I can say that I am cured, I can say goodbye to what was a nightmare for a long time.

I only have words of gratitude for the Institut de l'Art, specifically for Jaume Rosset and Cristina Gómez. For having been able to diagnose "something" that "had no solution" since 2012. A problem that changed my life, a focal dystonia in the right hand that ended the clarinet, badminton, more sports and many other things. I went from living a normal life, like any other 15-year-old person, to suddenly losing my mobility. A mistake with physical and psychological consequences that doctor after doctor only managed to make worse.

Now, 7 years after that day, and 2 and a half years after starting treatment, I can say that I am cured, I can say goodbye to what was a nightmare for a long time.

Thank you for being right, for taking care of words and people, for telling the truth without half-heartedness but with talent. Thank you for giving me the treatment I was looking for, for making me recover a hope that was almost lost, for making me see that with a lot of work, perseverance and effort everything could work again. Thank you for letting me continue with my life anyway, for not making me abandon my studies at CAFE, for introducing all the possible sports and music back into my life, for giving me strength when history seemed stagnant.

Throughout this process I have learned not to give up. To search until I find the solution, to work with all my strength until I achieve the expected result. Thank you for giving me the recipe to be me again.
